Testimony from Monica Ranson

I used to really struggle to eat a good breakfast. Went YEARS not eating breakfast, felt hungry all the time for the rest of the day, and consequently gorged myself at dinner, to the point of discomfort. Even though I thought I was eating good healthy food, I had ZERO control over my appetite. Until I learned in this group about the Big Breakfast. I realized the reason I couldn't face breakfast was because I was eating too much, too late at night. I am a wife and mum, and my men like their main meal in the evening. Just happens that didn't really work for me. So I switched. For me, it's been the catalyst in so many ways. I now...

Why I like breakfast and dont like fasts

Let’s start with a few givens (i.e. things that are well documented and known): Cortisol is the “stress” hormone. It is good in small amounts (getting you up in the morning, running away from lions) and bad in the chronic long term (immune suppression, abdominal “beer belly” obesity). Serotonin is the regulator of the six F’s: Fight, Flight, Food, Falling asleep, Feeling good, and… Sex. Too much is bad too little is bad. The same story as cortisol. Serotonin is involved in regulating cortisol secretion by the 5-HT(2a/2c) receptors (more serotonin, less cortisol) Let’s step into the much neglected world of serotonin research on insulin resistance and obesity. When’s the last time you’ve heard in pop culture about serotonin in...

In the absence of blood glucose, the body does not release insulin to return to normal blood sugar levels. With no insulin (which is a fat storage hormone) present, your body burns stored fat as its primary fuel. When that happens, your body releases ketones into your bloodstream, and you are in ketosis. This state may cause a host of temporary symptoms. It will also show up in your urine as ketones. Understanding Ketosis Symptoms Many dieters...

Intrinsic fats vs added fats

While some perceptions of the LCHF diet include large amounts of added cream, butter, extra virgin olive oil and coconut oil, this is not always the case, because many wholefoods that are suitable for LCHF diets are intrinsically high in fat, e.g. nuts, salmon, avocado, coconut, lamb and other meats, eggs, cheeses, olives. These foods are rich sources of protein, vitamins, and minerals and it is possible for many people – those with low bodyweight or low energy requirements - to be well nourished without ever eating added fats in amounts greater than the relatively small amounts needed in cooking, or to dress vegetables. Added fats provide what are called discretionary calories – the extra energy that someone needs after...
